Studying and Discovering Philippines

Philippine’s beauty is often ignored and undervalued, but it is also because of this fact that the country is more pristine, mysterious and unaltered than many other Asia island countries. Philippine’s natural terrain makes it a marvelous treasure for all kinds of travelers. The archipelago consists of over 7000 islands. Its coral reef offers a great place for diving and snorkeling. Travelers can sunbathe in the beaches of Puerto Galara, witness the majestic Banquet Rice Tarraces, visit the beautiful Baroque churches in the Asia’s largest Catholic country, shop on the streets of metro manila and learn about the county’s history through its Rizal Park and Blood Compact site. Many rare and endangered animals and precious plants can be found in the Philippines, including the Philippine Monkey Eating Eagle, Tarsier, Waling-Waling flower and water buffaloes.

Due to Western colonization in its history, the Philippine population is extremely diverse; many Filipinos have different origins ranging from Malay, Spanish, Chinese and American. There are approximately 77 different languages and 170 dialects spoken in the Philippines. The people are exceedingly friendly and hospitable to the extent that they will treat their guests like royalty. Astonishing, multicultural and spirited, Philippines is a great place to relax, learn and venture.

When to Go
If you like tropical weather, the Philippines might be the place for you. The hottest months are from March to May. However, there may be droughts during this time of the year, which can also lead to black outs because most of the Philippine’s power plants are hydro-powered. From June to October, there is heavy rain and there is risk of strong typhoons. November to February is considered the best time to study due to the fair weather. Other than the traditional Christian, Muslim and Chinese holidays, some of the local events include Day of Valor, when boy Scouts march in honor of Bataan Day every two years in April and Independence Day.
